The game thing had a small screen, smaller than arcade
screens and hardly andy colors, just a bunch of words. I guess he really
got into these things at school, Mom says it was the only class hever
got an "A" in was the one that had these computer things.
I never knew he could type, but I saw him spell words that night on
the letter board faster than I could ever write them. I guess that is
what he was doing when he stayed after school. Mom was never too sure.
But, now that he has his own, thanks to our dead grandma, he doesn't
stay late at school any more. Actually, I'm pretty sure he's been skipping
some school too, but Mom doesn't talk about it. I guess he's almost
graduated anyway so it doesn't really matter.

"The
problem with America's public schools [...] have almost nothing to do with
technology. Consequently, no amount of technology will lead to the educational
revolution prophesied by President Clinton and others. The art fo teaching
cannot be replicated by computers, the Net, or by "distance learning."
These tools can, of course, augment an already high-quality educational
experience. But, to rely on them as any sort of panacea would be a costly
mistake." **** |
